About Home-Start Telford & Wrekin
Home-Start Telford & Wrekin are a family support charity, and we work with vulnerable young families, supporting parents to give their children the best possible start in life and helping the whole family to thrive. issues we support with include mental health, isolation, domestic abuse, child abuse, deprivation, disability, child development, support to get out and to access appointments, chaotic lifestyles, signposting and liaising with other services, relationship problems. Mental health and isolation are particularly prevalent in families we support.
Support is through parent-to-parent peer befriending by carefully selected and prepared volunteers. Volunteers are matched with parents based on personality, life experiences and skills, once matched they visit families in their homes weekly for around two hours. Volunteers also accompany parents to access other services or to simply have support to get out of the house. Support is solution focussed and is monitored through outcome scores completed during quarterly reviews with family co-ordinators. In addition to our core home-visiting service we also run self-esteem courses which have had fantastic outcomes, regular universal drop-in groups and low mood drop ins. The self-esteem courses, and low mood sessions have a creche so that parents can concentrate on their own issues without distraction from children.
